Futurity and Derby horses MUST be nominated and postmarked by Oct. 8, 2007. NO EXCEPTIONS!

If a horse has been nominated – complete entry payment must be made prior to 7pm on Oct. 19, 2007. If complete payment has not been made, this will result in a disqualification.

 

 Futurity and Derby Entry Rules:

  • The Futurity is open to horses five years old or younger (Foaled in 2002 or later).The Derby is open to horses seven years old or younger (Foaled 2000 or later).
  • Futurity and Derby horses must check in during designated time on October 20, 2007 (see event schedule for time). At check in Futurity and Derby horses must present original registration paper or veterinary affidavit of year of birth and complete physical description. Failure to comply with this rule will be grounds for disqualification from competition.
  • A copy of registration papers for registered horses or veterinary affidavit of year of birth and complete physical description for unregistered horses must accompany nominations. Nominations not including these documents will incure late fees until they are received.
  • To be eligible for the futurity, the horse must never have competed in any barrel race for points, prizes, awards or money, including but not limited to AQHA shows, play days, novice horse events, derbies, rodeos, ect. prior to December 1, 2006. Futurity horses MAY compete after December 1, 2006.
  • Should a nominated horse be sold during the course of the payment period, written authorization must be received from the original owner and a $25.00 fee for ownership change. If no authorization and payment is received, the horse must be re-nominated from the beginning.
  • There will be two go-rounds in the futurity which will determine the horses that qualify for the short go. The number of horses advancing to the short go will be 20% of the total Futurity starters, unless the total number of horses entered is under 50. If less than 50, 10 will advance to the short go. The total time of the two go rounds plus the short go will determine the Championship standings and winners.
  • There will be two go-rounds for the derby. The total time of the two go rounds will determine the Championship standings and winners.
  • Horse substitutions are allowed only due to illness, injury or death of the nominated horse. A veterinarian’s affidavit of proof must accompany substitutions along with a $25 fee. Any substituted horse will be ridden by the original nominated rider. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • NO REFUNDS IN ANY CASE.  
  • All checks for entry will be made to MN Lakes Barrel Race. Any insufficient fund checks will automatically require you to pay in a cashiers check or money order for the balance of the payment schedule. Those payments made with NSF check will be assessed charges of $25.
  • Checks issued to placing horses will be made to horse owner. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • A total of 80% of the entry fee will be returned to the purse for payout.

Futurity, Derby & 4D Ground Rules

 

  1. Barrels and starting line will be marked.
  2. If a horse falls or a similar incident occurs, contestant will NOT receive a re-run.
  3. Knocking a barrel will result in a no time.
  4. A standard pattern will be used if possible. If a standard size pattern does not fit in the arena, a pattern as close to a standard pattern size as possible will be used.
  5. Running order for 4D will be drawn and posted online October 15, 2007. Futurity and Derby round 1 draws will be posted online October 15, 2007. Futurity and Derby round 2 draw will be the reverse of round 1. Futurity short go will be slowest time to fastest time.
  6. Contestant may start on either the right or the left of the barrel. When starting to the right barrel there will be one right turn and two left turns. When starting to the left there will be one left turn and two right turns.
  7. Not following the clover leaf pattern will result in a no time.
  8. Riders must maintain forward motion when approaching the pattern or you will be disqualified. There will be no circling in the arena prior to starting the pattern.
  9. Anyone taking excessive time in the alleyway or arena to school a horse will receive three gate calls to enter the arena, if the they fail to enter they will be disqualified. If schooling, training or tuning occurs during the competition, 1 warning will be given to exit the arena immediately by either the announcer or gateman. If the rider fails to immediately exit the arena a $50 fine will be assessed and must be paid before the rider is allowed to compete again.
  10. All contestants dress shall include long sleeved button up shirts, western hats, boots and jeans during their scheduled run. NO jackets, vests or baseball caps allowed during a riders scheduled run.
